History & Story of SVSG

Bringing hope to Samoa

The Genesis

In 2004, a group of dedicated prosecutors convened a pivotal meeting. Their mission: to establish an organization providing crucial support for victims of sexual offenses, with a particular focus on young children. These visionary individuals formed the foundational membership of what would soon blossom into the Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG)

SVSG's Early Champions

With the crucial backing of former Police Commissioner Sonny Schuster, who held significant sway within the ex-police association, Commissioner Lorenese and the group of prosecutors arranged a pivotal meeting with that very association. The women of the ex-police association embraced the challenge, collaborating closely with the prosecutors to lay the groundwork for what would become the Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG).

SVSG's First Office

In a pivotal moment for SVSG, then Prime Minister Tuilaepa, recognizing the immense potential of this burgeoning organization, granted them the use of the ground floor of the old government building as its very first office. This significant gesture provided SVSG with a crucial initial foothold. The ribboncutting ceremony, performed by Taulapapa Brenda Heather-Latu, officially opened the doors to SVSG's inaugural office, marking the true beginning of its journey to support victims in Samoa.
